Liposuction

Liposuction is the removal of fat from the body using suction. The best areas for liposuction are the areas with "problem fat" that will not go away despite a good diet and exercise. This may be love handles, saddlebags, fat on the upper legs or buttocks, or a pot belly. Even upper arms can do extremely well with liposuctioning.

I use Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL), which removes more fat with less bruising than traditional liposuction. It is performed through small holes made in key locations in order to access areas of extra fat. If you have excess skin or cellulite in the area being liposuctioned, however, be aware that liposuction can make these problems worse. Best results will be achieved if you wear your "garment" (a tightly wrapped binder or girdle) as directed after the surgery.

People often ask me: "Will liposuction make me fat in other places?" Let's say you have ten pounds of fat removed via liposuction. A few months after the surgery (after the swelling goes away), the scale will show that you have lost ten pounds. But after a year or two, according to the scale your weight has returned. So what happened? Chances are, you gained the weight back -- but it appeared in a new place. The best way to avoid this problem is to keep your weight stable. And if you actually have a lot of weight to lose, try a slow weight loss diet. Liposuction is best for sculpting your curves -- don't rely on liposuction for weight loss.
